Local Safeguarding Children Board

ROLE OF THE LSCB

The LSCB is an inter-agency forum which brings together representatives of each of the main agencies responsible for helping to protect children from abuse and neglect within Cambridgeshire. It aims to ensure that arrangements work effectively to bring about good outcomes for children.

The tasks of the LSCB are to:

  • develop, agree and review local policies and procedures for inter-agency work to safeguard and protect children, consistent with the government guidance outlined in the document "Working Together to Safeguard Children"
  • audit and evaluate how well local services work together to protect children
  • put in place objectives and performance indicators to measure the quality of child protection work
  • encourage and help develop good working relationships between different services and professional groups, based on trust and mutual understanding
  • ensure that there is a level of agreement and understanding across agencies about operational definitions and thresholds for intervention
  • improve local ways of working in the light of knowledge gained through national and local experience and research, and to make sure that any lessons learned are shared, understood and acted upon
  • improve the quality of child protection work and inter-agency working through the identification of training and professional development needs and ensuring its delivery
  • raise awareness in the community about the need to protect children, the work of the LSCB in this area and explain how the community can help
  • conduct Case Reviews as required by "Working Together"
  • establish and maintain a realistic budget to underpin the work of the LSCB.
