Cambridgeshire PCT
Cambridgeshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (Addenbrookes)
Hinchingbrooke Hospital NHS Trust.

Safeguarding Teams
Safeguarding teams are the framework of accountability for the NHS Trusts. They ensure communication and information flow between the Safeguarding team and the Trust Board to assure a robust Safeguarding Children Service. This system monitors the quality assurance of
safeguarding work within the Trusts and supports the Trust and its staff in accessing child protection advice, guidance and procedures regarding safeguarding of children.

Named Health Professionals
Each NHS Trust has a Named Doctor/General Practitioner and a Named Nurse who are responsible for promoting good professional practice within the Trusts.

The PCTs have a specialist nurse - child protection to support the Named Nurse with her duties within primary care.

The Rosie maternity unit and Hinchingbrooke hospital both have a NamedMidwife with a key responsibility to safeguarding the unborn child and neonate.

Addenbrookes and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mental Health Trust have a system of child protection leads in key areas to support and extend the work of the named nurses and doctors.

The Named Health Professionals can be contacted via the individual Trusts regarding child protection issues.

Designated Health Professionals
There is a Designated Nurse and Designated Doctor for safeguarding children who are the strategic lead on all health aspects of the health service contribution to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable children.

They work closely with the named professionals, and over-see and advise the child protection services within and across all the Health Trusts.

Training
In addition to the Local safeguarding Children's Board training, the named health professionals have an extensive training programme within the Trusts. This includes a child protection awareness-raising component to the induction of every new member of staff and level one and two child protection training programmes. The Health Trusts are just about to launch an e-learning programme. This will provide an alternative method of receiving, and increase the access to child protection training.

Supervision and Advice
Further key roles of the child protection teams within the trusts is to give support and advice to all health professionals. This is given both informally and ad-hoc as and when required; and also formally by structured child protection supervision to key professionals whose role is primarily with children, such as health visitors, school nurses and child and family nurses.
The Safeguarding Children' Health Professionals continue to work proactively with multi-agency work, communications and liaison as a fundamental aspect to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of children.
