THE NSPCC'S WORK

We have 177 community-based projects and run the Child Protection Helpline and ChildLine in the UK and the Channel Islands. Most of our work is with children, young people and their families. We also work to achieve cultural, social and political change - influencing legislation, policy, practice, public attitudes and behaviours, and delivering services for the benefit of young people. We want to see a society where all children are loved, valued and able to fulfil their potential. To do this, we have four objectives:

  • To mobilise everyone to take action to end child cruelty.
  • To give children the help, support and environment they need to stay safe from cruelty.
  • To find ways of working with communities to keep children safe from cruelty.
  • To be, and be seen as, someone to turn to for children and young people

The NSPCC Helpline is a confidential and free service open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Calls are dealt with by our Helpline counsellors, who are all trained child protection officers. You can telephone, email or write to them for information and advice, or to report concerns about a child at risk of abuse. Tel: 0808 800 5000. Email: Helpline@nspcc.org.uk

Independent Enquiry and Assessment Service (IEAS)
IEAS conducts independent investigations and assessments to identify children at risk of abuse and takes protective action. This includes investigations of cases of alleged child abuse where NSPCC involvement can add the benefit of greater independence and objectivity; enquiries into complex abuse situations; and specialist assessments on behalf of local authorities and law courts.
