Cambridgeshire & Peterborough
Active Sports Partnership
Sports Safeguarding
Group
Following a number of meetings
in Spring 2005 with officers
of the Cambridgeshire Area
Child Protection Committee
and then a larger meeting held
at the Football Association
involving these officers, those
from the Peterborough Area
Child Protection Committee,
Cambridgeshire Police and the
Child Protection in Sport Unit
it was agreed to establish
a Sports Safeguarding Group
to link into the Local Children’s
Safeguarding Boards.
The outcomes for the group
include the following:
- Act as a conduit of information
and guidance, from statutory
to and then within sport
/ voluntary and vice versa
- Support the delivery of
training; to inform as wide
an audience of sports people
as possible of the safeguarding
agenda as well as ensuring
effective training and support
of nominated officers (ie
Club Welfare Officers)
- To improve communication
between agencies (with and
within sport), building on
good practice and ensuring
that children are safeguarded
irrespective of the sporting
activity they are engaged
in
- Develop tools and resources
to help sports people and
organisations to meet their
safeguarding requirements
(and contribution to wider
Children & Young People's
agenda)
- Communicating the message
that participation in sport
must, and does, match the
wider outcomes of Every Child
Matters (Stay Safe, Be Healthy,
Make a Positive Contribution,
Achieve Economic Wellbeing
and Enjoy and Achieve)
