
Education Safeguarding Sub Group
Terms of Reference
The Group will meet half termly for the remainder of the academic year 2009/10 and then review in May with a view to meeting termly in 2010/11.
Meetings will be arranged in advance for the remainder of this academic year and in May for 2010/11.
The Group will comprise:
- Primary School Headteacher
- Secondary School Headteacher
- Special School Headteacher
- Independent School Representative
- Education Personnel Management Representative
- Head of Service (HR – CYPS)
- Head of Service (Standards and Safeguarding – Children’s Social Care)
- Head of Service (Early Years and Childcare Service)
- Head of Service (Education Support Services) (Chair)
- Service Manager (Child Protection Service)
- Service Manager (Governor Services)
- Education Officer (Allegations)
- Assistant Education Officer (ESS)(Clerk and Project Officer)
The Group will:
- Offer a forum within Cambridgeshire School sector and settings for the discussion of all ‘schools facing’ safeguarding issues
- Provide a tangible link on safeguarding between the Headteacher Reference Groups, the Local Authority, the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board, external schools’ personnel provider and other partners to ensure a coherent approach to the delivery of high quality outcomes on safeguarding in schools and settings
- Provide an appropriate vehicle for the requisition, scrutiny, promotion and implementation of relevant advice, guidance and training for schools
- Advise on the development of safeguarding services supporting schools, where appropriate, so that they meet the needs of children and young people in Cambridgeshire
- Monitor and analyse any relevant data to inform provision required for the development of safeguarding support
- Delegate responsibility for particular areas of work to sub-committees which will be task oriented, time limited and include other relevant professionals outside the ESG with specialist expertise within the area of focus
- Through its headteachers, provide regular feedback to the Headteacher groups on the work of the ESG
- The Safe Employment Group will provide feedback to members.
The Group will review its work at the end of the summer term 2010 and report formally to the LA’s Management Team, the appropriate Committee of LSCB and the Headteacher Groups
